&#38;lt;언더그라운드&#38;gt;는 터널 발파 현장의 풍경이 귓속의 터널을 닮았다는 아이디어에서 시작해 ‘땅의 소리’, 발파음과 난청인의 소리 경험을 기록한다. 광명—서울고속도로 터널 현장의 지질 기사이자 난청인인 작가의 아버지를 통해, 작품은 노화에 따른 장애와 정상의 몸을 졸업하는 생의 이행기, 그리고 중장년층의 노동에 대해 질문한다. 나아가 난청과 보청기의 불편을 재현해 장애의 감각을 재구성함으로써, 한 개인의 고유한 삶을 담아낸다.


Starting with the connection between the landscape of a blasting tunnel and the anatomy of the ear, Underground captures the ‘sounds of the earth’—merging the explosions of the site with the sonic experience of the hard of hearing. Following the artist’s father, a geological engineer with a hearing loss, the film explores the transition of life, the process of outgrowing the able body, and the nature of labour in an aging society. By reconstructing the sensory experience of hearing loss and the discomfort of hearing aids, Underground documents a unique and intimate portrait of a human life.

동명의 아카이브 웹사이트로부터 제목을 가져온 다큐멘터리 &#38;lt;헤비웨더&#38;gt;는 지방에서 생산직으로 일했던 작가의 친구 ‘공기’, 한강 변에서 장어를 낚는 동네 토박이 노인들, 그리고 당인리 발전소 근처에 있었다는 트랜지스터 조립 공장에 대한 소문을 따라간다. 이 영화는 공기가 직접 만든 하이드로폰으로 한강 물속을 녹음하던 중, 우연히 라디오 주파수를 포착한 사건을 계기로 시작되었다.
습한 공기를 가르며 물속을 헤엄치듯 움직이는 공기는 일인칭 시점의 관찰자가 되어 한강을 떠돌며, 소문 속의 공장을 찾아다닌다. 물고기가 한 마리라도 걸리기를 기다리는 낚시꾼들, 물속의 소음, 그리고 공기의 개인사를 한 장소로 불러내는 &#38;lt;헤비웨더&#38;gt;는 노동 계층, 여성, 그리고 기록되지 않은 삶들을 주인공으로 삼는 일종의 공포 영화다.
이들의 모습은 ‘하나만 걸려라’고 되뇌며 온갖 곳을 쏘다니는 다큐멘터리스트들과도 닮아 있다. 소문 속 여공들은 한강에 남은 물귀신의 목소리로 돌아와 공기를 끌어들인다. 사람의 목소리는 듣고 기록하지 않으면 귀신 소리가 되어버린다. &#38;lt;헤비웨더&#38;gt;는 여름 장마철의 눅눅한 심상을 통해 이 귀신 같은 이야기들을 감각적으로 그려낸다.


Named after an archive website, Heavy Weather explores rumors of a vanished transistor factory near the Danginri Power Plant. The film follows “Air”—a friend of the artist and a former factory worker—alongside local fishers on the Han River and echoes of the long-lost factory. It began when Air’s homemade hydrophone accidentally caught a radio signal underwater.
Gliding through the humid air, Air becomes a first-person observer, drifting along the riverbank in search of the rumored factory. Heavy Weather brings together patient fishermen, underwater noise, and fragments of Air’s personal history in one haunted space. It becomes a kind of horror film centering on the working class, women, and lives left unrecorded.
They resemble documentary filmmakers drifting from place to place, hoping for just one lucky shot. The rumored factory girls return as the voices of drowned spirits, pulling Air closer. Voices left unheard and unrecorded become ghosts. Heavy Weather captures these spectral stories through the thick, damp air of the summer monsoon.

Heavy Weather is a sound-mapping research website, based on a personal auditory experience of a car accident. This map archives various recordings of anecdotes and opinions about sound, as well as general life stories. It is a diary of one’s own but also a memory jukebox that allows us to hear the past and present simultaneously. We are currently weathering a storm of our times. I hope the sounds of this storm can cleanse listeners’ minds.

	최근 2년 간 지속되었던 전세계적인 깊은 잠에서 깨어난 몇 명의 생존자들이 모여 윙크 살인 게임을 시작한다. 윙크 살인은 몰래 선택된 살인자가 눈을 깜빡여 다른 사람들을 죽일 수 있는 파티 게임이다. (추파의 신호이기도 한) 윙크는 코로나바이러스 팬데믹 기간 동안 우리가 경험한 친밀함의 치명성을 제시한다. 바이러스는 비밀스럽게 전파되고, 피해자들이 누구에게서 전염되었는지 아무도 알지 못하지만, 생존자들은 게임을 즐긴다.
또한 윙크는 다큐멘터리 필름메이킹의 본질을 암시한다. 다큐멘터리는 보통 조용한 초대로 시작하며, 카메라의 렌즈는 윙크를 하는 생존자들의 눈처럼 관음적이기도, 친근하기도 한 시선을 가진다. 윙크 살인을 진행하는 동안, 생존자들은 락다운 기간 동안 그리웠던 것들을 즉흥적으로 흥얼거리며 추모의 노래를 부른다.
	
A group of people, possibly only a few survivors from a global sleep which everyone went through in these two years, have woken up and gathered to play a game of Wink Murder. Wink Murder is a party game in which a secretly selected killer can kill the other players by winking at them. The wink—often a flirtatious gesture—hints lethality of intimacy we’ve experienced during the coronavirus pandemic. The virus travels secretively, and no one knows whom the victims’ have gotten their fatal cause, yet the survivors enjoy the game.
The gesture of wink also implies the essence of documentary filmmaking: it often starts with a quiet invitation, and the camera lens works as a voyeuristic yet friendly gaze, like the survivors’ eyes. Throughout the game of Wink Murder, the survivors improvise and sing the obituary song of post-pandemic life: things they’ve missed the most during the lockdowns.

속삭임 접시는 파라볼라 안테나를 활용한 소리 전달 실험에서 유래한다. 특정한 자리에 서 있는 것만으로도 파라볼라 안테나는 곡면을 통해 속삭임을 아주 먼 거리까지 전달할 수 있다. 퍼포머들은 벌판을 떠돌며 다양한 소리를 내도록 지시 받는다. 그 둘은 얼굴을 마주할 때, 서로의 소리를 흉내내야만 한다. ‘누가 누구를 흉내내느냐?’ 이 수수께끼 같은 대화는 일종의 권력 싸움이 된다. 속삭임 접시 놀이는 우리가 서로를 이해하기 위해서 크고 명확한 의사소통을 할 필요는 없다는 것을 제시한다. 상대방을 이해하기 위해서는 어떤 자리에 서느냐가 더 중요한 것이다.
	

Whispering Saucers derives from a sonic transfer experiment on parabolic antennas—in which, by standing at a certain point, the antennas can transfer whispers through their curves and send them further distances. The performers are asked to wander around and make various sounds, but when both of them face each other, they’ll have to mimic one another. Who’s going to mimic who—this enigmatic communication becomes somewhat of a power game.&#38;nbsp;The play of Whispering Saucers suggests that loud and clear communication is not essential to understand each other. What matters is where you’d stand to understand one another.

	“몇 달 전 길가를 걷고 있다가 웬 두꺼비가 그냥 가만히 앉아 있는 걸 발견했다. 두꺼비한테 다가가 보니 겁을 먹었는지 차도 쪽으로 뛰어가기 시작했다. 나는 두꺼비 주위에 발을 질질 끌어서 두꺼비를 움직이게 하려고 했다. 사실은 두꺼비가 내 커다란 발에 겁을 먹고 움직여서 차에 치이지 않도록 한 거나 다름없었다.
내 발길질은 선의에서 비롯된 것이지만, 두꺼비에게는 순전히 위협으로밖에 느껴지지 않는다. 어떤 선의는 위협처럼 느껴지고 어떤 위협은 선의처럼 느껴진다. 하지만 내가 길가를 잘 보고 걷지 않았다면 아마 그대로 두꺼비를 밟아 죽였을 거다. 직접적인 위협보다 나쁜 건 무시와 관심 없음이다.”
	
“A few months ago, I was walking down the road and found a toad lying there. I approached the toad, but it got scared of me and started to jump towards the driveway. I tried to guide the toad into the passage by dragging my feet around the toad. More like, making the toad terrified of my massive feet, so it would move and not get killed by a car.
My footsteps derived from my goodwill, but to the toad, it was a pure threat. Some goodwills feel like threats and some threats feel like goodwills. But if I didn’t pay any attention to the street while I was walking down the road, I'd probably step on the toad and killed it. The worse thing than a direct threat; it’s ignorance and indifference.”

	집 앞의 페컴 라이 공원에 나가 걷다 보면 산책 나온 개들과 그 주인들을 볼 수 있다. 보통은 산책로가 정해져 있기 때문에, 개들이 사람보다 더 빨리 도착지에 도달하고는 한다. 이 이야기를 친구에게 전하면서 그 이유가 뭘지 묻자, 친구는 “개는 길을 헤매는 걸 두려워하지 않고, 사람보다 많이 걷고 많이 탐색하기 때문에 도착지를 빨리 찾아낸다”고 답했다. 도착지에 더 빨리 도달하기 위해서는 특별한 능력보다는 더 헤매고자 하는 마음가짐이 중요한 것이다.

	Whenever I walk Peckham Rye Park in front of my flat, I see the dogs and their owners. They often have their designated path to walk, and most of the time, the dogs reach the arrival point faster than the owners. I told this story to a friend, asking why; he replied, “Dogs are not afraid of wandering, so they walk and search more than us humans.” To reach the arrival point, being a wanderer wins, rather than having an exceptional talent.

	예언자는 최근에 일어난 한국의 항공승무원 우주방사선 피폭 사건에 대한 리서치 필름이다. 대한항공 소속 안희복 기장과의 인터뷰를 통해, 영화는 항공승무원들의 현재 노동 환경과 1920년대의 역사적인 산업 재해 사건인 라듐 걸스를 비교해 조명한다. 예언자는 기술 발전과 노동 복잡성의 피해자가 어쩔 수 없이 항상 발생하지만, 대부분의 경우 그 피해자는 후기 자본주의 사회에서 가장 취약한 이들임을, 그리고 이 두 사건의 경우 그 피해자는 여성이었음을 제시한다.
	Fortune Teller is a research film about the recent case of cosmic radiation exposure by South Korean aircrews. Through the interview with Captain Heebok Ahn (Korean Air), the film reviews the current working condition of the aircrews by comparing the case to a historical industrial accident of the 1920s—Radium Girls. Fortune Teller suggests that there will always be inevitable victims of technological progress and labour complexity. Still, most victims on such occasions are often the most vulnerable people of late capitalism—in this case, women.
