<언더그라운드>는 터널 발파 현장의 풍경이 귓속의 터널을 닮았다는 아이디어에서 시작해 ‘땅의 소리’, 발파음과 난청인의 소리 경험을 기록한다. 광명—서울고속도로 터널 현장의 지질 기사이자 난청인인 작가의 아버지를 통해, 작품은 노화에 따른 장애와 정상의 몸을 졸업하는 생의 이행기, 그리고 중장년층의 노동에 대해 질문한다. 나아가 난청과 보청기의 불편을 재현해 장애의 감각을 재구성함으로써, 한 개인의 고유한 삶을 담아낸다.

Starting with the connection between the landscape of a blasting tunnel and the anatomy of the ear, Underground captures the ‘sounds of the earth’—merging the explosions of the site with the sonic experience of the hard of hearing. Following the artist’s father, a geological engineer with a hearing loss, the film explores the transition of life, the process of outgrowing the able body, and the nature of labour in an aging society. By reconstructing the sensory experience of hearing loss and the discomfort of hearing aids, Underground documents a unique and intimate portrait of a human life.
